Does my library stay on my computer?
Duncan stores your library locally. Optional cloud sync can upload the library, including original files and recordings, when you enable it. A connected AI tool can retrieve content you allow and may send it to its AI provider. Optional image analysis and transcription also use your configured provider. The local library is not encrypted by Duncan. See the privacy details.
Can I use it with any AI?
Duncan works with compatible tools that support local MCP connections, including Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Codex. It doesn’t connect directly to every AI website. Hosted tools such as ChatGPT in a browser need a remote connection that this preview does not provide.
Can I take my knowledge with me?
You can export and import your Duncan library and keep your original files. Your context is independent of any single AI conversation or provider. Optional cloud sync is available after sign-in.
What can I add?
Start with PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, CSV, text, Markdown, and web pages. Edit spreadsheet cells and save a copy, or ask a connected AI to analyze registered tables. Duncan also supports images and recordings; image analysis and transcription require additional provider setup. Search coverage depends on the file format and processing status.
Does Duncan work on Windows?
Yes. The Windows preview supports document imports, keyword search, and local MCP connections. Meaning search and native meeting recording are currently Mac-only. Requires Windows 10 or 11 on an Intel or AMD 64-bit PC; the installer may download Microsoft WebView2.
Is Duncan ready for everyday use?
Duncan is an early preview. Start with copies of non-sensitive documents and keep backups. The Mac preview is Developer ID signed and Apple-notarized. The Windows preview is unsigned and may show a SmartScreen warning.
